Adventure Cruises

For those who want that once in a lifetime adventure we have the boat, experience and knowledge that can make this a reality. For example how would you like to cross Lake Michigan? If that sounds too adventurous check out our Mini-Adventure Cruises that will take you to different ports in Upper Michigan across the Bay of Green Bay which in itself is no small body of water.

Adventure Cruises Across Lake Michigan

If you are not familiar with Lake Michigan this may help put it in perspective. The Bahama Islands are closer to Florida than it is to cross Lake Michigan from Door County to mainland Michigan. Crossing a large expanse of water like this in a smaller boat is not for everyone. Making the crossing and seeing land disappear behind you then eventually reappear on the distant horizon makes for a rewarding experience that you will never forget. Your Captain has made this crossing many times and is very familiar with the big Lake and the various ports that you can choose from. If this sounds a little too adventurous then check out our Mini-Adventure cruises across the Bay described below.

For example do a 90 mile crossing up and across the Lake to beautiful St. James harbor on remote Beaver Island in northern Lake Michigan. Way before getting to Beaver Island we would see the towering sand dunes, several hundred feet tall, of the Fox Islands getting closer as we approach them. These remote Islands have an interesting history we would share with you as we cruise along them. The next morning we would depart Beaver Island for mainland Michigan. We can help you choose a variety of ports from the luxurious Bay Harbor, quaint Harbor Springs, Petoskey or even continue north and follow the freighter lanes under the Mackinac bridge and into Lake Huron to historic Mackinac Island.

A shorter crossing would be approximately 60 to 70 miles to either Frankfort or Leland with it's historic and quaint "Fishtown". As we cross the wide expanse of Lake Michigan and lose site of Door County if we have a clear enough day we will see the outline of the Manitou Islands and their 400' high sand dunes start coming into view. As these dunes are so high these islands can be seen from miles away. These beautiful Islands are a National Park and worth a separate day trip by Ferry from Leland. Leland can also be a stopover if you want to continue your adventure on to either Grand Traverse Bay or Charlevoix described below.

Another favorite destination is Grand Traverse Bay. Just in this large deep Bay alone are four destinations you can choose from. Northport, Suttons Bays, Elk River, or Traverse City. Perhaps you might want to explore all of these ports or pick one to visit on your way down the Bay to Traverse City and it's many restaurants. We would cross the Lake in between the Fox Islands and the Manitou Islands and cruise around either should you want.

75 miles across, passing the Fox Islands, is Charlevoix. This trendy upscale town is actually on an inland lake, Round Lake. We enter a canal between breakwaters to find our way into this town. Round Lake then connects to the much larger Lake Charlevoix that is so big it has two other ports we can go to, East Jordan or Boyne City. The trip down Lake Charlevoix to Boyne City is a beautiful ride and going up the South Arm, as it is called, to East Jordan is like following a winding river inland.

We are familiar with all these ports and can explain the scenery you will see, the restaurants, the hotel choices, and land transportation. Want to see these ports but not sure about crossing the wide expanse of Lake Michigan? We can pick you up on the other side and travel port to port along the beautiful coast to as many as you want to visit. If crossing Lake Michigan sounds too exciting or time consuming but traveling to a far away port and staying overnight intrigues you then check out our Mini-Adventure Cruises across the bay of Green Bay.

Mini-Adventure Cruises across the Bay.

For those of you who might not have the time to cross Lake Michigan or want to stay closer to this side then check out some examples of our overnight cruises across the Bay. We can take you as little as one night overnighter and back or we can take you to the port of your choice and let you know about the land transportation options. Some of the ports below can also be combined into a two or three night round trip overnighter.

Escanaba, MI. is described in our private charter descriptions. An overnight trip to Escanaba can be combined with an all day out island (also described in private charters) excursion along the way or you can opt for a quicker two hour ride up the Bay to Escanaba with a stop at the Minneapolis Shoal Lighthouse along the way.

A short one hour or so crossing is available to Cedar River, bring your tents and camp overnight at JW Wells State Park.

Heading a little farther down and across the Bay are the twin cities of Menominee, Michigan, and Marinette, Wisconsin. Pick either one for your overnight stay.

Farther south is Oconto, Wisconsin or 90 miles down the Bay is the city of Green Bay. This distance is as far as crossing Lake Michigan but you never leave the Bay.

The above ports are suggestions of various cruises. If interested in other ports in the Bay or Lake that we did not mention let us know and we can put together an itinerary for you. Traveling by water and coming into an unknown or different port is an exciting experience we would love to share with you. Exploring a town you have never been to or not familiar with is an adventure. We are familiar with all the above ports and can suggest sights to see and restaurants to eat at. The above cruises can take a day or as many days as you want. Each trip is unique and the daily rate will depend on the port or ports you want to see, how many people in your party, time spent in each port and distance to locations. If interested in learning more about a once in a life time adventure you will never forget contact us and we will quote you the cost for your trip.

As you can see we have been to most of the ports in Door County and the Bay of Green Bay and almost every port in northern Lake Michigan and several in Lake Huron. You can use the above ideas mentioned in the Adventure Cruises for your cruise or we can work with you on combinations of any of these other ports to customize a trip for you.
